Frida Kahlo Inspired Platter Set
I made two platters. Both are inspired by 2D artist Frida Kahlo. This first platter is an oval shaped platter with carving on the bottom and carvings and tracks on the outside rim of the platter. It is glazed brown with red ascents. The second platter is a square platter with embellishments on the edges. It is glazed yellow. For my first platter I mainly focused on emphasis and balance. The tracks cover just over 1/3 of the edge of the platter but is also off set by the main carving on the bottom of the platter begin on the opposite side that the tracks are placed therefore establishing balance. Emphasis is also established with the glaze and the way the carvings on the bottom of the platter all come from one central point that also corresponds with the glaze and creates a point of emphasis. In the second platter I focused on balance and unity. I used the clay embellishments on every side and made sure to balance the placement of each embellishment. Considering the fact that all embellishments are different I had to especially focus on the unity of the platter. I think my best decision for the platters was the glaze choices I made. The bold yellow matches the environment of the painting it is based on and same with the brown and red platter. Overall I am very happy with my pieces and I think I was successful.
